After having a successful 30 year educational career in a variety of leadership roles, she has authored three books. Currently an entrepreneur, she also promotes a health and wellness lifestyle, and is an expert in relationship building, education, strategies for organizational change, has twenty-five years experience in mediation. Dr. Cottrell works with individuals and groups to promote a positive workplace environment in the fields of education and business using ethics and compliance as her platform for success.
Retired from education in 2016, Carmel Cottrell had been a key administrative leader in Chicago-area public schools, building an impressive professional record in Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54. In mid-2011, Cottrell capped a highly successful eight-year tenure on the SEA Executive Board, serving in such capacities as Negotiations Team Member, Contract Chair, Vice President, and President. Aside from her work in education, Dr. Cottrell authored the Village of Schaumburg Peer Jury Juvenile Offender Program in 1985, going on to serve as its Commissioner until 2017.

Sean Cottrell has advised on data management at the federal and state levels. He has supported the Privacy Technical Assistance Center as a senior subject-matter expert on student privacy, Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) grant program as a member of the State Support Team, US Dept. of Education's Data Strategy Team, and the US Dept. of Education's Disclosure Review Board. Sean has worked strategically with states to better understand legal implications of longitudinal data systems and overcome challenges seen as barriers to implementation.
Sean has more than 10 years’ experience working in the identity services and information security space, spanning leadership roles in private industry as well as in state government. He served as the education privacy officer and data governance coordinator for the state of Wisconsin, and is a national expert on data privacy and security related to student data—primarily in the realm of legal compliance. Sean provides authoritative guidance on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection rule (COPPA), and intersections with various privacy laws.
